Our mission is to increase access to feminine hygiene products in nearby areas to homeless women. While these kits are not made exclusively of feminine hygiene products, they are directed at maintaining adequate access to these cleaning products in order to help reduce the amount of avoidable illnesses caused by lack of resources and accessibility. These illnesses include, but are not limited to, toxic shock syndrome, UTIs/RTIs, fertility issues, yeast infections, increased risk of cervical cancer, and bacterial vaginosis. While many of these illnesses are not deadly, they are avoidable when good feminine hygiene is practiced. Most local homeless shelters do not provide basic cleaning supplies for women since these are seen as “nonessential” supplies, in comparison to clothes and food. This is a precarious misconception that endangers the health, comfort, and safety of the women living in these unfavorable conditions. Our goal is to provide the items and support needed to keep these women healthy, clean, and happy while expanding and serving our community.

The purpose of our organization is to introduce the martial art of Kendo to UCR. Our organization would like to find students who are interested in Kendo throughout the University. Since other UC's have their own Kendo organizations, we are able to connect UCR to other schools through Kendo related activities. Our main goals are to practice Kendo and to teach cultural values, traditions, and the art at UCR. We participate in multiple tournaments throughout the year such as Yuhihai at UCLA, and Shoryuhai at Harvard University. In past years, we have consistently placed highly at these tournaments. For example, at the 2018 Yuhihai Tournament, our members placed First in the Co-ed Division, Second in the Kyu Individuals Division, and Third in the Kyu Team Division. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to come out to practice. No prior experience is necessary. Wear clothes that are easy to move around in and an open mind. Follow us on Instagram for the most up-to-date information @LaFamiliaDeUCR La Familia exists because our experiences as a people, and our historical and continued struggle for liberation gives rise to particular needs and interests which require a different framework of analysis than that of the mainstream Latinx and queer communities. Recognizing the issues of religious bigotry, heterosexism, and ignorance in the Latinx communities and racism and ignorance in the larger Queer communities, La Familia demands a safe space of its own to explore, support and educate ourselves and others in imperative issues that affect us simultaneously, e.g. racism, sexism, heterosexism, and classism. La Familia commits itself to self-determination, self-respect, and dignity; not just mere survival. Our goals are to fight for self and group respect, to ensure cultural preservation, community activism and empowerment, community service, and unabashed, unrestrained self-expression.

La Hermandad de UCR (HUCR) is a cultural organization with the goal to create a welcoming environment where students at UCR can thrive and succeed while contributing to the Chicane/Latine community. We focus our efforts towards increasing the matriculation, retention, and graduation rates among the Chicane/Latine student population. We will achieve this through the guidance of our three pillars: Academic Excellence, Community Service, and Social Networking. As “La Nueva Persona”, we will strive to spread our philosophy of Hermandad as a stepping-stone towards creating a sense of familia on the UCR campus and in the (local) Riverside community. With the understanding that Chicane/Latine students traditionally face institutional, societal, and internal struggles, HUCR aims to address and surpass these historical adversities. Our mission is to impact our community and serve as leaders to incoming Chicane/Latine students. By becoming contributing members of our society, we can encourage others to follow in our footsteps.

La Unión Estudiantil de la Raza, Inc. was founded on October 6, 1992 at the University of California, Riverside by ten individuals. They had an idea that there needed to be a place where one could feel comfortable and respected without any animosity for what one thought, felt, or believed. The members analyzed the purpose and decided to create an organization that would create leaders by focusing on incorporation of ethnicity with indigenous cultures. It was decided on this day that the members would work together to incorporate in the university a Chicano-Latino/Indigenous organization that was different from the Greek system. La Union Estudiantil de la Raza, Inc. has a distinctly different agenda that differs from the existing fraternal order. Our pledge ship is a non-hazing learning process of integration where incoming members can comfortably enter our Brotherhood. Our social atmosphere consists of recreational activities as well as scholastic and moral support. Our social activities involve unification gatherings of Chicano/Latino students, cultural trips, retreats, fundraisers, and intramural sports with other organizations on campus.
