    Friends of Médecins Sans Frontières at UCR

    Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian emergency aid and relief organization, founded in 1971, with national offices present in more than 20 countries including the United States. MSF's national offices contribute to the operation of medical humanitaria assistance projects in more than 65 countries worldwide. In 1999, MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize. More information about MSF is available here: https://www.msf.org/who-we-are The overarching goals of Friends of MSF at UCR is as follows: (1) To raise awareness for MSF. Friends of MSF York strives to raise awareness for MSF, the work of MSF in the field, the populations that MSF serves, and the humanitarian issues MSF supports. (2) To fundraise for MSF. Friends of MSF at UCR raises money to support MSF, its projects and campaigns. (3) To encourage others to consider work with MSF. Although students cannot work with MSF field missions, Friends of MSF at UCR strives to make students aware of future opportunities with MSF in the hopes that they will consider working with MSF later in their professional careers. Friends of MSF at UCR provides information on MSF, the nature of fieldwork, and emphasize that professionals from a wide range of medical and non-medical professions are needed. (4) Form deeper roots within the Inland Empire through community service projects and fundraisers for other local non-profit organizations.     Global Brigades - Legal/Human Rights

    The Global Legal Empowerment Brigades chapter at UCR is a non-profit organization that focuses on providing free legal services and education to rural, under-resourced communities that lack access to such. Our volunteers travel to communities located in Ghana, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama, while accompanied by lawyers and human rights activists. By assisting lawyers and activists in legal clinics and educational workshops, our volunteers learn about various ways to advocate for human rights and create a more empowered and secure community.     Global Medical Brigades at UCR

They will be held on Thursdays of Weeks 2, 4, and 8 from 6–7 PM Global Brigades is the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized thousands of university students and professionals through nine skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members to improve quality of life in under-resourced regions while respecting local culture. Currently, Global Brigades has ten disciplines. Medical, dental, public health, water, microfinance, business, environmental, human rights, engineering, and architecture brigades all work in rural communities and represent the holistic model that Global Brigades follows.     At Heal the People, we are dedicated to addressing health disparities and the social determinants of health affecting Riverside County’s most vulnerable populations, particularly unhoused residents. Our mission focuses on creating lasting impact through action and advocacy. As members, we will volunteer to gather and distribute social services and resources to unhoused individuals at local shelters. We’ll collaborate with social workers to understand community needs, health disparities, and the factors that influence the well-being of our community members. Additionally, we will lead initiatives to protect the rights of unhoused residents by advocating for stronger laws and increased funding from local government. Through outreach, partnerships, and advocacy, we aim to empower individuals experiencing homelessness, enhance access to resources, and promote dignity and equity for all.
