The purpose of the FTOC Organization is: To welcome, showcase, and build a community of future teachers of Color (both undergraduate and graduate) who are committed to racial and social justice in educational settings. To create a safe and welcoming space for FTOC members to discuss and share ideas on how to build racially transformative classrooms and schools. To provide opportunities for future educators of Color to meet current educators of Color who are currently doing racial justice work in their own schools/communities through guest speakers. To provide opportunities for community involvement and community service. To support current teachers of Color committed to racial justice by helping in the planning and facilitation of the annual Institute for Teachers of Color (ITOC) Committed to Racial Justice conference at UCR ( http://www.instituteforteachersofcolor.org/ ). Mission Statement: Following the mission of the Institute for Teachers of Color (ITOC) Committed to Racial Justice ( http://www.instituteforteachersofcolor.org/ ), the FTOC organization’s mission is to bring together racial justice-oriented students of Color from UCR who want to pursue teaching in a K-12 or higher education setting. Our main goal is to empower future educators of Color to teach for racial and social justice in order to build racially transformative classrooms and schools. We hope to do this by creating a safe space for students to critically think and talk about educational issues involving race and racism, providing volunteer opportunities in educational settings, and inviting teacher guest speakers to share their racial justice work.
