    Science Policy Graduate Student Association

    The Science Policy GSA bridges the gap between scientists and the general public, allowing STEM students to see their importance in the policy process. We practice communication skills, advocate for science, promote scientific collaboration, and create opportunities for students to connect with elected officials. We also educate students on the importance of the political process with respect to science and technology policy. We strive to allow students to see that their voice, vote, and expertise matter in the community, both local and national, and not just in academia.     This is a group for people who want to play roleplaying games, like Dungeons and Dragons, Shadowrun, Pathfinder, and Warhammer 40k. Our club provides a space for both new and veteran players to come together and group up for sessions, and offers a place to exchange new and creative ideas for the tabletop community.     Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority, Inc.

    Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority was founded on May 2 nd , 1996 by nine women at the University of California, Berkeley. They found the need to create a close network of Latinas who wanted to make a difference in their community by beginning with themselves. Beta chapter, at UC Riverside has been making strives on campus since June 2001. Although we use Greek letters, we are not affiliated with the Greek system. The Greek letters have been selected by our founding mothers to symbolize our Chicana/Latina heritage by spelling Ella, meaning she/her in the Spanish language. The sorority is Chicana/Latina based but we do consider ourselves to be multicultural. We have three pillars that we pride ourselves on. They are campus involvement, community service, and sisterhood. Lastly, if you are interested in joining, we would like you to know that we do not rush! We have a motto that says “you choose us, we don’t choose you!”

    Sisters Affirming our Social-Cultural Identities (S.A.S.I.) was established as a cultural enrichment and advocacy group driven towards the advancement of Black women everywhere. S.A.S.I. is intended to center those who identify as Black women and address their unique intersectional oppressions. We are here to empower, support and advocate on behalf of Black women across the African diaspora, spiritually and emotionally, mentally and physically. On the campus of University of California, Riverside, S.A.S.I. will serve as an organization that seeks to encourage women to work towards their own personal self-development by providing a healthy space that promotes vulnerability and growth. S.A.S.I. will use its platform to discuss, dissect issues that are relevant and directly affect women of color, black women and the black community overall.     Skateboard Club at University of California Riverside

    This organization exists to give skateboarders and its followers chances to advance themselves in places other than a local park. Trips and events will be organized to feed the need of skateboarders at UCR and to promote the culture of skateboarding. This organization is a healthy environment for skaters of all levels to grow and cultivate, even those who are new to skateboarding and would like to try it out. Alongside that, we are open and more than accepting of individuals who are interested in the culture of skateboarding and its various aspects outside the physical sport itself, such as: art & design, fashion, photography, music, editing skate videos, watching skate videos, etc. Lastly, this organization likes to put an emphasis on academics over skateboarding, because we are really here at UCR to further our education and to obtain a degree that will benefit our members lifelong.     Society of Student Biophysicists

    The Society of Student Biophysicists will serve as a hybrid Student Chapter / mini-GSA. As a Student Chapter of the Biophysical Society (BPS), its goal will be to promote academic and professional growth of students, with a particular focus on graduate students, in biophysics and related fields. This would be done through events such as poster competitions, talks, conferences, and seminars / symposia. As a mini-GSA for the Biophysics program here at UCR, it will serve as a hub of information for current and incoming biophysics graduate students and will host events to foster a stronger social connection amongst the biophysics student body. Both 'fronts' of the club will work synergistically to elevate the community of aspiring biophysicists in the UCR campus.

    Society of Women Engineers

    SWE at UCR is a professional engineering organization specializing in professional and academic development, open to all genders, and outreach opportunities by encouraging young students to pursue STEM fields. We also frequently collaborate with other engineering organizations to help expand students' professional networks. Three of our larger annual events are as follows: Bourns Science and Engineering Day is the largest engineering outreach event at UCR. This past year, over 2500 children, parents, and teachers registered to participate in an all-day event with a distinguished keynote speaker, tours of the college, and exciting, interactive STEM-related activities/experiments showing students and their parents the importance of math and science. Evening With Industry is a professional development event where company representatives and recruiters dine with students to share their experiences, provide industry insight, and discuss possible job/internship opportunities. Research Networking Night is an academic development event where distinguished engineering professors and graduate students dine with students to discuss their research, open undergraduate research positions, and their experiences.     Southeast Asian Studies Graduate Student Association

    The Southeast Asian Studies Graduate Student Association (SEASGRAD) is an association of MA and PhD students affiliated with UC Riverside’s Southeast Asian Studies Program, SEATRiP (Southeast Asia: Text, Ritual and Performance.) SEATRiP brings together faculty and students who share an interest in the arts and humanities and are actively engaged with the languages and expressive cultures of Southeast Asia. Work within SEATRiP addresses regionally-specific texts, rituals and performances across time and space. The interdisciplinary program was founded in 2002 by scholars in the Ethnomusicology, Anthropology, and Comparative Literatures and Languages departments. SEASGRAD’s mission is to build an inclusive, empowered and professional community of scholars in Southeast Asian Studies. This is an interdisciplinary group comprised of members enrolled in Master and Doctoral programs at UCR who are also associated with the SEATRiP M.A. and SEATRiP Designated Emphasis programs, or otherwise affiliated with SEATRiP and Southeast Asian Studies generally. The purposes of SEASGRAD shall be: -We contribute to scholarship on Southeast Asia, its people, and its diasporas. -We promote interdisciplinary dialogues among scholars of Southeast Asian studies. -We nurture communication between our graduate students, faculty members, and undergraduate students. -We gather and disperse integral funding and educational information. -We seek to heighten university and public awareness of the program of Southeast Asian Studies at UCR through events and outreach projects, such as our annual conference.

They view the traditional subfields -applied, archaeological, sociocultural, biological, and linguistic anthropology- as cross cut by foci that bring faculty and students together in ways that reinforce the unity of the discipline rather than its divisions." What is SAGA? SAGA is the graduate student arm of the Anthropology Department at UCR. The mission of SAGA is first and foremost to foster a sense of community among our anthropological scholars. We do so in a number of ways: 1. We facilitate communication between graduate students and faculty members 2. We collect and disseminate vital educational and funding information And 3. We increase the public's awareness of the department and of anthropology in general Most of all we are here to provide social, professional, and economic support to our graduate students through resources linked to our page and through various events organized throughout the year.
