The Southeast Asian Studies Graduate Student Association (SEASGRAD) is an association of MA and PhD students affiliated with UC Riverside’s Southeast Asian Studies Program, SEATRiP (Southeast Asia: Text, Ritual and Performance.) SEATRiP brings together faculty and students who share an interest in the arts and humanities and are actively engaged with the languages and expressive cultures of Southeast Asia. Work within SEATRiP addresses regionally-specific texts, rituals and performances across time and space. The interdisciplinary program was founded in 2002 by scholars in the Ethnomusicology, Anthropology, and Comparative Literatures and Languages departments. SEASGRAD’s mission is to build an inclusive, empowered and professional community of scholars in Southeast Asian Studies. This is an interdisciplinary group comprised of members enrolled in Master and Doctoral programs at UCR who are also associated with the SEATRiP M.A. and SEATRiP Designated Emphasis programs, or otherwise affiliated with SEATRiP and Southeast Asian Studies generally. The purposes of SEASGRAD shall be: -We contribute to scholarship on Southeast Asia, its people, and its diasporas. -We promote interdisciplinary dialogues among scholars of Southeast Asian studies. -We nurture communication between our graduate students, faculty members, and undergraduate students. -We gather and disperse integral funding and educational information. -We seek to heighten university and public awareness of the program of Southeast Asian Studies at UCR through events and outreach projects, such as our annual conference.
