African Americans United in Science (AAUS)

The purpose of AAUS is to increase the educational and professional opportunities available to African American science students at the University of California, Riverside; stimulate the dissemination of valuable information to both student and the overall community, and provide social, cultural, and volunteer activities that serve to enrich the undergraduate experience of AAUS members. To familiarize AAUS members with graduate and professional school information and career opportunities in the sciences. To unite African American students in the sciences, and provide academic and professional support, in order to create a network of connections and resources accessible to students. To obtain and disperse information for and encourage participation in) professional mentoring, summer programs, research opportunities, and conferences pertinent to the success of AAUS members in their particular fields of study. To educate AAUS members about the history of African Americans in science, and encourage them to strive towards success in the future.
