The Tzu Chi Collegiate Association at UCR (Tzu Ching) is the collegiate chapter of a larger foundation known as the Tzu Chi Foundation. Tzu Chi Foundation is a non-profit international charitable organization founded in 1966 by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in the impoverished east coast of Taiwan. The Foundation has dedicated itself in the field of charity, medicine, education, environmental protection, as well as the promotion of humanistic values and community volunteerism in Taiwan and globally for over forty years. Today, Tzu Chi has nearly ten million members around the world. Tzu Ching directly translates to “youths with compassion and joyous giving.” UCR Tzu Ching members thus engage in the Tzu Chi spirit of compassion by carrying out the Tzu Chi missions of Charity, Medicine, Education, and Culture on campus. Tzu Ching members desire to bring love and care to all people we meet and help. We support one another on the path to becoming better people through retreats, camps, study groups, sharing events, and volunteering. We hope college students, in their prime years to grow as leaders and advocates for change, can gain more knowledge about their own community, as well as a deeper respect for all people. Everyone is welcome to join so that we can take action through compassions and wisdom.
