The purpose(s) of this organization shall be to provide a supportive and empowering space specifically structured for the academic, professional, and personal development of Black scholars at UCR who are interested in the field of education. Black Scholars in Education (BSE) seeks to cultivate a community where students can connect with others who share similar backgrounds, experiences, and aspirations. Through mentorship, networking, leadership development, and educational workshops, BSE aims to create more accessible and equitable pathways for Black students pursuing careers in teaching, educational policy, counseling, administration, research, and related fields. In addition to promoting professional growth, BSE will serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration on issues that impact Black educators and students within the education system. The organization will encourage members to engage critically with topics such as representation, equity, cultural responsiveness, and systemic barriers in education. By fostering a sense of belonging and purpose, BSE strives to unite, inspire, and prepare the next generation of Black educators and advocates who will transform classrooms, institutions, and communities for the better.
