Established at The University of California at Riverside on November 7th, 2007, the Society of Physics Students (SPS) provides undergraduates and graduates from all disciplines the opportunity to expand and further their knowledge of physical phenomena through the following: Dynamic, interactive meetings which bring together members for the purpose of discussion of physics-related topics Organized field trips to laboratories, particle accelerators, observatories, Universities and a plethora of other institutions which demonstrate physics in the real world Philanthropy/community service, Guided research, Colloquial Projects, and group collaborations aimed to showcase the creative and inginuitive thought of every individual. It is the goal of SPS to to help students transform themselves into contributing members of the professional community or help students expand and further their knowledge. Course work develops only one range of skills. Other skills needed to flourish professionally include effective communication and personal interactions, leadership experience, establishing a personal network of contacts, presenting scholarly work in professional meetings and journals, and outreach services to the campus and local communities.
